Flanged Ball Bearings and Their Variations

Posted by on

Mounted in cast iron, flanged ball bearings are used in conjunction with various other bearing types. The flange design is intended to help with the operating, mount and position of miniature bearings, other types of bearings, and instruments. Flange bearings can reduce issues such as axial overload, shaft flexing and vibrating problems. Multiple bearings may be used depending on how fast and how long the shaft in use is. So what are the different types of flanged bearings and what are they used for?

Flanged Ball Bearings Types and Uses

Flanged ball bearings are frequently supportive of ball, roller and needle roller bearings. They're also used with plain bearings as well. Here's the different versions:

Two Bolt Flange Bearings: Usually incorporates a wing or diamond shape. The holes for mounting the bearing maintain a straight axial line that runs directly through the bearing axis. It's uses are mostly to lend mechanical equipment support to intermediate shaft speeds and load sizes that use a mounting surface and shaft that are perpendicular.

Three Bolt Flange Bearings: The most common design is a circular flange mount with three mounting holes that are spaced equally. There are other variations that use offset mounting holes depending on the application. This version also uses bearings that can be aligned and moved for accommodating longer shafts. Their uses are intended for light to medium loads within the auto, agriculture, conveyor and industrial fields.

Four Bolt Flange Bearings: This design typically is a housing that is square or round. The four hole mount pattern is radial around the axis of the bearing. They're used frequently with a mounting surface perpendicular to the shaft, and handle rotating or linear movement.

Which flanged ball bearings you need mostly depends on what you need it for. Click the link to find the best in-stock bearings and parts with same day shipping in most cases.
