Deciding on the Right Oil Seals

Oil Seals

It doesn't look like much, and it doesn't cost much, but the value of Oil Seals cannot be overstated. From denying foreign particles such as dirt and dust from getting inside of machines, to stopping liquids and lubricants from leaking, their importance is undeniable.

Choosing the right fitting oil seal is the first thing you should make certain of when deciding to replace worn seals, but there are other considerations as well. Here's a quick run down on things you may want to think about:

  • How Much Pressure can the Oil Seal Take?

The standard oil seals aren't designed to withstand much pressure. If you need a stronger oil seal built to withstand more pressure, it is advisable to use a high pressure or pressure free design that is built for more strenuous usage.

  • The Right Alignment

Size matters when it comes to oil seals. If you have the wrong sized seal, you could have leakage, or wear that occurs on the misaligned areas, which will ultimately cause your oil seal to last only a short time.

  • Range of Temperature

Make certain that the composition of your oil seal is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures. Failure to do so could create a weakening of the seal due to cracking and/or hardening caused by extreme heat or cold.

One more thing to consider is using the proper lubrication for the oil seal you're using. Finding the right parts can make all the difference in the quality and quantity of the work you do, so make informed buying decisions.
